Venerable Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche July 25-27, 2009 In the Unity Sanctuary
Yongey (pronounced Yon-gay) Mingyur Rinpoche is a highly venerated teacher and master of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in Nepal in 1975, and was recognized as a tulku by both H.H. the 16th Karmapa and H.H. Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He is the author of two books, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness; and the just-released Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom. He is featured on the cover of the May 2009 Shambhala Sun, a major Buddhist publication. Mingyur Rinpoche speaks English, and is known for his accessible (and entertaining) teachings on complex subjects. Rinpoche will give two talks on Mahamudra, also called Dzogchen, an approach to meditation at the heart of Karma Kagyu Buddhism that emphasizes experiencing reality fully. He will also teach on Green Tara, the remover of obstacles and the main source of immediate help in the Kagyu and other lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. He will offer Green Tara empowerment, which connects one to Green Tara and makes it possible to practice her sadhana (imageformation and chant) and praises at home or in groups. For more information, visit Mingyur Rinpoche’s website: Mingyur.org. Annual Renewal Conference Hosted by Unity Church
“Making A Difference” is about moving beyond the constraints placed on us—the limits we have set for ourselves and those we feel have been set by others. It is about providing us with direct access to what is possible for the future. A major component of the course is the practice of Centering Prayer, a simple and effective technique for directly experiencing the Divine Presence. The Mastery Foundation is about sharing a life-giving process with those who pour themselves out in ministry and service to others. Our facilitators include Rev. Dr. Jim Bradley, the Rector of a thriving urban parish which does remarkable outreach and has a growing Spanish congregation; Brother of the Sacred Heart Bill Cawley, a program leader with many years of experience in teaching and prison ministry; Myrtle Gallow, Consultant to Pilgrim AME Job Connection in Washington DC; and Rev. Dr. Clinton McNair, Jr., Professor, Director of Pastoral Counseling Program, Seattle University School of Ministry and Theology.
